The “Mai Bharat” ‘Yuva Samvad: No Your Vote’ campaign introduced the importance and responsibility of voting to the youth across most states of the country, resulting in more than 59,000 young people participating in the dialogue.

‘My Bharat’, an NGO active in the field of social engagement and civic education, recently expanded the ‘Yuva Samvad: Know Your Vote’ campaign to the national level. The main objective of this initiative is to increase voting awareness among the youth and motivate them for active participation in the democratic process. Under the campaign, educational workshops, online webinars, and local level interaction sessions were conducted in 30 states and union territories. In these sessions, detailed discussions were held on voting rights, criteria for candidate selection, and social changes that occur after voting. So far, more than 59,000 youth have participated in these programs, understood the importance of their franchise and taken steps towards becoming responsible citizens.

Given the success of the campaign, experts called it a positive step towards increasing the youth voting rate in India. Youth voter turnout had been relatively low in previous elections, leading many social groups to stress the need to improve it. Chief Executive Officer of ‘My Bharat’ said, “Our aim is not just to encourage voting, but to provide youth with the ability to make informed choices, so that they can play an active role in the decisions that shape their future.” Also, representatives of the Election Commission appreciated such grass‑roots initiatives as a means of strengthening democracy and expressed their desire to cooperate with these efforts in the future. Thus, the ‘Yuva Samvad: Know Your Vote’ campaign has set an important milestone in making the youth aware about voting.
