Policy Commission health expert Prof. (Dr.) M. Srinivas visited the central government’s premier health research institute CCRAS‑NIIIMH, Hyderabad, and discussed measures to strengthen research‑based collaboration in India’s health policy formulation.

Professor (Dr.) M. Srinivas, a member of the Health Department of the NITI Aayog, recently conducted an official visit to the Center for Clinical Research and Advanced Sciences – National Institute of Immunology and Microbiology (CCRAS‑NIIHM) in Hyderabad. During the visit he met the institute’s director and senior scientists and conducted a detailed review of the institution’s current research projects, particularly those in the areas of immune response, vaccine development, and antimicrobial resistance.

Professor Srinivas emphasized that incorporating scientific evidence into the health initiatives of NITI Aayog is essential, and that close collaboration with institutions of this nature can make policy formulation more effective and relevant.

Both parties reached agreements on several points during the visit, including strengthening the funding model for national health research, establishing a data‑sharing platform, and accelerating innovation through public‑private partnerships. In particular, they agreed to set up joint working groups to implement technological solutions for post‑COVID‑19 pandemic preparedness, anti‑resistance strategies, and rural health care.

Professor Srinivas stated that NITI Aayog will prepare a detailed report to incorporate these aspects into the national health policy, thereby improving the resilience and responsiveness of the health system in the future.

This visit is considered a significant step in giving new direction to scientific collaboration between NITI Aayog and CCRAS‑NIIHM, establishing an important milestone toward accelerating and enhancing research‑based decision‑making in India’s health sector.
