India's Health Minister Pratap Rao Jadhav urged citizens, on the occasion of Dhanteras, to adopt a balanced diet, regular exercise, and a stress‑free lifestyle, so that health remains safeguarded alongside the festival's joys.

Dhanteras, a symbol of gold and silver purchases and sweets for Indian consumers, faces health challenges this year.

Health Minister Pratap Rao Jadhav said that on this festival, along with economic prosperity, it is essential to prioritize physical and mental health. He explained that excessive sweets, fried snacks and smoking habits can increase the risk of chronic diseases—such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer. To reduce these risks, he suggested simple but effective measures: walking briskly for at least half an hour daily or doing yoga, adopting a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, and even during the festival, wisely combining gold and silver investments with health‑safe options.

Jadhav also highlighted that the government has successfully implemented several public health campaigns in recent years, including awareness programs for preventing non‑communicable diseases (NCDs), health education in school campuses, and establishment of community exercise groups. He said that by advancing these initiatives, cooperation from local bodies and volunteer organizations has been appealed to ensure that every citizen has access to affordable and accessible health facilities.

Finally, Jadhav requested all citizens to give equal importance to their own and their family's health along with Dhanteras purchases, so that this festival can symbolize both prosperity and healthy living.
