Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Punya Salila Srivastava, completed the selection of part‑time members of the National Dental Commission (NDC) and its autonomous boards through a draw of lots as per the provisions of the National Dental Commission Act, 2023.

The Central Health Ministry, adhering to the procedures prescribed under the National Dental Commission Act, 2023, conducted a draw of lots for the appointment of part‑time members to the NDC and its autonomous boards. The process was chaired by the Ministry’s Secretary, Ms. Punya Salila Srivastava, and all selected candidates were chosen in a transparent and fair manner, with the expectation of improving the commission’s efficiency and representation. According to the Act, the selection of part‑time members is made to ensure balanced representation among various dental institutions, research centres and industry representatives at the national level.

The NDC, which functions as the principal body for dental health policy, standard‑setting and regulatory activities, will now incorporate these part‑time members to enhance expertise and diversity within its autonomous boards. These members will comprise a mix of dental practitioners, academic experts, public‑health officials and private‑sector representatives, enabling the integration of practical experience and scientific perspective in policy formulation. The Ministry stated that this step aligns with the broader national goal of improving the quality, accessibility and affordability of dental health services.

Most of the selected members are established experts in their respective fields and have made significant contributions to dental health improvement, research and teaching. In the coming months, these part‑time members will be placed on various committees of the commission, allowing the incorporation of the latest technologies and international standards into the national dental health policy. Thus, the structural strengthening of the National Dental Commission is being regarded as a crucial step for the development of dental health services in India.
