At the BRICS parliamentary forum, the Lok Sabha Speaker emphasized the need to prioritize human rights and transparency in technological progress and urged all member countries to work collectively toward the development of ethical and accountable technology.

The Speaker of the Lok Sabha recently delivered a major speech at the BRICS Parliamentary Summit, emphasizing the need to balance technological innovations with human oversight. He stated that cooperation among BRICS nations should not be limited to economic and trade sectors alone, but must also create a shared framework to establish transparent, accountable, and ethical standards in the digital domain. In this context, he called for clear rules on data security, the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI), and preventing the misuse of digital surveillance.

The speaker also highlighted that the parliaments of BRICS countries can progress only by linking the benefits of technological development with social inclusion and the protection of human rights. He urged accelerating the finalisation of the “Digital Ethics Charter” proposed in the previous BRICS parliamentary session, which should include provisions for AI algorithm transparency, bias‑free data usage, and prioritising technological solutions that serve the public interest.

In conclusion, the speaker proposed that all BRICS parliaments cooperate in establishing or strengthening national technological oversight agencies to ensure responsible monitoring of technological applications. He also said that India will play a leading role in this direction, remain a partner in establishing ethical technological standards on the international stage, and expressed hope that this initiative will give digital cooperation among BRICS nations a new direction and credibility.
