Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Punya Salila Srivastava, has completed the selection of part‑time members of the commission and its autonomous boards through draw‑of‑lots as per the provisions of the National Dental Commission Act, 2023, which will infuse new energy into dental education and the regulatory framework.

The selection process for part‑time members of the National Dental Commission (NDC) and its autonomous boards was completed in accordance with the rules prescribed under the National Dental Commission Act, 2023. In this process, a list of eligible candidates was prepared and draw‑of‑lots were used to ensure transparency. The Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ms. Punya Salila Srivastava, officially validated the selection and said that the step has been taken to strengthen quality and accountability in dental education, research and public health services.

The 2023 Act provided for the establishment of an independent regulatory body to upgrade standards of dental education, curb unauthorized practice and reinforce the ethics of dental professionals. Part‑time members, comprising experts from academic, clinical and administrative fields, will play a crucial role in the commission’s policy‑making, standard‑setting and inspection functions. This selection is expected to benefit the commission with diverse perspectives and is anticipated to improve the reach and quality of dental health services.

The Ministry of Health stated that in the future, similar transparent and fair procedures will continue to be adopted, and necessary steps will be taken to empower the National Dental Commission. This initiative is regarded as a significant step toward strengthening the regulatory framework of dental education and providing better dental health services to Indian citizens.
