Under the guidance of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Shri Harivansh, the Indian Parliament discussed major issues in the third session of the 153rd General Assembly of the Inter‑Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Arusha, Tanzania, and expressed support for several collaborative proposals.

The 153rd annual assembly of the Inter‑Parliamentary Union (IPU) was held in Arusha, Tanzania, with representatives from more than 190 parliaments worldwide participating. India’s parliamentary delegation, led by Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Shri Harivansh Prakash, actively engaged in multiple sessions on this platform to strengthen democratic values, sustainable development, and transparent governance processes. On the third day, debates focused particularly on climate change, energy transition, and women’s empowerment, where Indian representatives highlighted the specific challenges faced by developing countries and proposed concrete steps for international cooperation.

During the session, the Indian delegation endorsed the IPU’s “Smart Parliament” initiative, which aims to make legislative processes more transparent and accessible through digital technologies. Additionally, India proposed a new platform to promote parliament‑level knowledge sharing with Africa and other developing regions, a proposal that was positively received by many countries. The delegation praised the host Tanzanian government’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals and expressed a desire to deepen bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the future.

Overall, the continued participation of India’s parliamentary delegation reaffirmed India’s active role on the international stage, contributing positive steps toward global democracy and collaborative governance. The outcomes of this assembly will be brought to future sessions of India’s Parliament for discussion, ensuring that international experiences are incorporated into domestic policy‑making.
