The Ministry of Health has taken a significant step by establishing cutting‑edge imaging and diagnostic centers in two major government hospitals in Delhi, aiming to provide patients with prompt and precise treatment.

Central Health Minister Mr. JP Nadda formally inaugurated the Advanced Bladder Diagnostics Centre at VMMC in Delhi and PET‑CT and SPECT‑CT imaging facilities at Safdarjung Hospital today. The event was attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Health, hospital administrators, and several medical specialists. Mr. Nadda stated that the availability of these state‑of‑the‑art devices will enable early detection of cancers, especially bladder cancer and other complex diseases, thereby significantly improving treatment success rates.

With the inauguration, both institutions also announced that the new facilities will be used in patient‑centric programmes under the National Health Mission. Specifically, PET‑CT and SPECT‑CT scanners provide high‑sensitivity imaging technology that accurately measures tumour location, metastasis, and treatment effects. The VMMC bladder diagnostics centre has installed the latest endoscopic and imaging equipment, offering patients a comprehensive examination facility under one roof.

This initiative reflects the Indian government’s commitment to technological advancement and infrastructure strengthening in healthcare. Given the rising trend of cancers and other serious diseases in recent years, establishing such advanced centres will not only spare patients from overseas travel but also reduce health expenditures at the national level. Plans are underway to allocate additional budgets and encourage public‑private partnerships for the establishment of more such centres in the future.
