The Speaker of the Lok Sabha clarified in his parliamentary speech that a strong democracy depends on dialogue, diverse ideas and meaningful public participation.

Chairman of the Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla, clarified in today’s session that the foundation of a robust democracy lies in dialogue, diverse viewpoints, and deep public participation. He said, “A healthy democracy endures only when all citizens and political parties can respectfully express their differences and actively engage in the decision‑making process.” This statement came during a debate on current policy and governance guidelines in the Parliament.

The chairman emphasized the importance of dialogue at both internal and external levels of the Parliament. He noted that all members are given equal opportunity to voice their opinions in parliamentary proceedings, while measures such as “public hearings” and “citizen participation forums” involve the general public in policy making. He also explained that incorporating diverse viewpoints makes policies more balanced and inclusive, thereby sustaining social harmony.

This statement makes it clear that dialogue and participation are given a central role in India’s democratic framework. This approach not only enhances transparency and accountability within the Parliament.
