Consumer Protection and Competition Authority (CCPA) announces strict measures to safeguard consumer interests against misleading advertising of walkie‑talkie devices and products sold in violation of regulatory standards.

The Consumer Protection and Competition Authority has recently presented a comprehensive action plan to curb the rise of misleading advertisements and violations of regulatory standards in the walkie‑talkie market. This step has been taken in response to numerous consumer complaints and growing evidence of irregular sales practices in the industry. The CCPA reported that many sellers have provided false information regarding the product’s technical capabilities, warranty terms, and approved frequency band, causing customers to face financial loss and safety risks. In this context, the authority has already issued notices to several companies, mandating the verification of advertising content and certification of products in accordance with existing telecom regulations.

Under the new directives, manufacturers and distributors of walkie‑talkie devices will be required to present the necessary technical certificates, such as the approval issued by India’s telecom regulator (TRAI‑D) (Note: “ट्राई‑डिज़” refers to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India). Sellers who violate these requirements will face fines, sales bans on their products, and possible legal action. Additionally, the CCPA plans to launch a consumer awareness campaign that will explain how to identify and report misleading advertisements through digital platforms and traditional media.
