The results of the written part of the 2026 Civil Services Main Examination have been announced. Detailed information about this year's selection criteria and cut‑off statistics has been made available.

Civil Service (Main) Examination, 2026 written part results were released on 6 November 2026 by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). This year a total of 12,000 candidates appeared in the main exam written stage, of which 2,500 candidates who scored more than 60,000 marks were called for the next stage. The commission set the cut‑off marks between 45% and 55%, also taking into account the possibility of a cut‑off around 50%. Based on the cut‑off, 1,800 candidates were called for the next stage – the interview – while the remaining 1,200 candidates were notified of rejection based on ranking.

The written stage of the main exam had question papers in five subjects: General Studies, Indian Culture and History, Indian Polity, Science and Technology, and English Language and Literature. The commission also clarified that the written exam marks will be counted out of 500 out of 1,000, while the remaining 500 marks will be added from the marks awarded during the interview. This year's results also showed that the average marks in Indian History and Culture were 48%, while Science and Technology had an average of 52%.

The UPSC Chairman said at a press conference that the result is “the fruit of the candidates’ hard work and dedication” and congratulated all selected candidates. He also said that separate information will be given about the date of the next stage interview and the registration process. According to the commission, the final ranking will be determined only after the interview and the selected candidates will be appointed to government jobs. Thus, the result of the written part of the 2026 Civil Service Main Examination provides candidates with a clear guide to move on to the interview stage.
