The 2026 edition of the International Maritime Research and Development Forum (IPRD) concluded successfully, having made collaborative ocean governance and responsible maritime technologies the central agenda, thereby setting a new direction for global maritime policy and innovation.

The 2026 Edition of the International Maritime Research and Development Forum (IPRD) Concluded at the End of This Year

The 2026 edition of the International Maritime Research and Development Forum (IPRD) concluded at the end of this year, with leading marine scientists, policymakers, industry representatives, and non‑governmental organizations from around the world in attendance. The two‑week conference highlighted Collaborative Ocean Governance and Responsible Marine Technologies as its main themes. Sessions covered detailed discussions on marine biodiversity conservation, the impacts of climate change, and models for international cooperation for the sustainable use of marine resources. Participants jointly proposed new methodologies to strengthen data‑sharing platforms, transparent regulatory frameworks, and the participation of local communities.

Compared with previous IPRD conferences, this time more emphasis was placed on technological innovation. Sessions presented experimental results on autonomous marine drones, renewable‑energy‑based vessels, and marine waste recycling technologies. Several countries announced joint research programmes to adopt these technologies, with the expectation of taking concrete steps to reduce carbon emissions in the maritime industry and protect marine ecosystems.

In the closing ceremony, the IPRD chairman stated that solving maritime challenges without collaborative governance is impossible, and that this forum has laid the essential groundwork for integrated policy‑making and technical cooperation at the global level.
