India and South Korea agreed in talks held in Busan to deepen cooperation in shipbuilding, supply chains and ship recycling, creating new opportunities for both countries' maritime industries.

In a bilateral maritime cooperation forum held in Busan, India and South Korea signed several strategic agreements to expand their existing partnership. Under the agreement, the supply chain for raw materials for shipbuilding between the Indian Navy and Korean shipyards will be strengthened, ensuring a steady flow of steel, aluminium, and high‑technology components. Both parties also plan to establish a joint research and development centre to enhance transparency and cost efficiency in the supply chain, enabling the future construction of more sustainable and high‑performance warships and commercial vessels.

The second part of the agreement focuses on fostering collaboration in ship recycling. The two countries have formed a joint working group to develop shared technology for managing marine waste and environmentally recycling old ships. This initiative will not only help reduce marine pollution but also create the possibility of reusing recycled materials in new shipbuilding projects.

Experts believe that this collaboration will give India a new direction for maritime security and industrial capability, while offering South Korea an opportunity to expand its shipbuilding market in the Asia‑Pacific region. Such comprehensive cooperation between the two nations is expected to bring not only economic benefits but also significant progress in marine environmental protection and technological innovation.
