Many people, recognizing the health and social harms caused by alcohol consumption, are changing their habits, and now they are taking steps toward a healthy life with rehabilitation programs and government assistance.

In recent years, India has witnessed a steady rise in the number of people affected by alcohol addiction. Health experts say that excessive alcohol consumption is increasingly causing liver disease, heart problems, mental disorders, and social harms. In this scenario, many rehabilitation centers and non‑governmental organizations have recently launched comprehensive programs to restore individuals who quit drinking, both physically and mentally.

These programs typically include medical supervision, nutritional counseling, yoga and meditation sessions, as well as group therapy, enabling patients to gradually distance themselves from alcohol and adopt a healthy lifestyle. The government has also taken steps in this direction by providing grants and training programs for rehabilitation centers under state‑level alcohol control schemes. Additionally, the ‘#सफेदजीवन’ campaign running on social media has played a crucial role in spreading awareness, motivating more and more people to gain control over their addiction.

Interviews reveal that after quitting alcohol, individuals are experiencing improvements in physical fitness, mental peace, and family relationships. Several former drinkers shared that the support of fellow patients and the continuous guidance of doctors have been the greatest help during the rehabilitation process. Thus, overcoming alcohol addiction and moving toward a healthy, balanced life is becoming a collective social mission, with significant contributions from both personal effort and government support.
