The Secretary of the Ministry of Health adopted a draw‑of‑lotties process under the provisions of the National Dental Commission Act, 2023 to select part‑time members of the Commission and its autonomous boards, thereby ensuring transparency and equal opportunity in the selection process.

Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Punya Salila Shrivastav, has arranged a draw of lots in accordance with the procedure prescribed by the National Dental Commission Act, 2023, to select part‑time members of the National Dental Commission and its autonomous boards. This step aims to guarantee transparency, fairness, and equal opportunity in the formation of the commission.

The National Dental Commission was constituted under the 2023 Act, whose primary function is to regulate dental education, training, and professional practice. To strengthen the commission’s work, the selection of part‑time members is mandatory, ensuring representation of diverse experts and stakeholders in the field. The draw‑of‑lots method was employed because it minimizes the possibility of bias inherent in traditional selection processes and provides equal opportunity to all eligible candidates.

Secretary Shrivastav requested that all documentary and qualification criteria be strictly adhered to during the selection. After the commission’s formation, it is expected that standards of dental education and practice will improve, and patient safety and treatment quality will see significant advancement. This move reaffirms the government’s commitment to equality and transparency in the health sector.
