The Fisheries Department has launched the Special Campaign 6.0 to strengthen water body cleaning, waste management, and transparent administration, aiming to increase fish production and ensure environmental balance.
The Fisheries Department recently announced a special campaign 6.0, which prioritizes the cleanliness of water bodies, waste management, and good governance. This initiative is being carried out in coordination with the National Clean India Mission and the Water Conservation Policy, aiming to improve water quality by removing plastic, chemical waste, and organic debris that accumulate in rivers, ponds, and reservoirs. Under this campaign, the department has proposed regular cleaning operations in more than 150 water bodies, community participation programmes, and a digital monitoring system. In addition, training camps and information campaigns will be conducted to raise awareness among fisheries beneficiaries about the importance of cleanliness.
At the same time, to strengthen good governance, the department announced the adoption of a transparent process. This includes real‑time tracking of fish licenses, subsidies, and fund disbursements through an online portal, and the establishment of an independent inspection team to prevent corruption. These measures are expected to provide fisheries beneficiaries with faster and fairer services, while also reducing administrative expenses. Experts believe that clean water bodies will not only increase fish production, but also strengthen the local economy and food security.
In the initial phase of campaign 6.0, several districts have already shown positive results; improvements in oxygen levels in water bodies and a notable increase in fish stocks have been recorded. The department said that this initiative will be expanded over the next two years and will become a national model through cooperation with other state departments. Thus, the Fisheries Department has demonstrated its commitment to cleanliness and good governance through concrete actions, leading to significant steps toward sustainable fish production and environmental balance.
