State Minister Harsh Malhotra of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs said that recent reforms have made the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) more effective, thereby speeding up debt recovery and significantly improving the ease of doing business in India.

The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), enacted in 2016 to manage financial crises, has enhanced its effectiveness through several major amendments in recent years. State Minister Harsh Malhotra noted that the recent changes have accelerated and made the recovery process for creditors more transparent, giving banks and financial institutions greater confidence in recovering outstanding amounts. In this direction, the core process time limits were reduced, clear criteria for restructuring were established, and stricter punitive provisions were imposed on defaulters. These measures have not only strengthened banks’ balance sheets but also restored investor confidence.

The impact of these reforms is also clearly visible in the business environment. The rapid resolution rate under the IBC has freed entrepreneurs from uncertainty, making it easier to obtain financial assistance for new projects. Traders have reported that delays in loan approval processes have decreased and lenders are now more proactive in extending credit. This reform gives India a competitive advantage on the global trade stage, where easy recovery and robust credit discipline are considered important criteria by investors. Overall, the latest changes to the IBC not only reinforce financial stability but also significantly enhance the ease of doing business in the country, thereby accelerating India’s economic growth.
