Dharmshala, Himachal Pradesh – National Conference on E‑Governance Reforms Opens Today Morning in Central Government Building

The National Conference on E‑Governance Reforms was inaugurated this morning in the central government building of Dharmshala, Himachal Pradesh. The event was attended by officials from the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, the head of the state government’s Digital Governance Department, and more than 30 representatives from academia and industry. The conference aims to reassess the current framework of digital governance and to reach consensus on new initiatives to expand service access in rural and remote areas.

During the session, the Minister of Information and Communication Technology stated that under “Digital India,” 70% of all government work is expected to be online by 2025. He added that achieving this goal requires special attention to data security, citizens’ digital literacy, and the development of infrastructure. The state’s Digital Governance Director reported that Himachal Pradesh had reached 1.5 crore citizens through its e‑Governance portal in 2024, yet connectivity and digital skill gaps in rural areas remain a challenge.

The conference also hosted several workshops and panel discussions on the Smart City model, the expansion of electronic identity (e‑ID), and cloud‑based public services. Participants agreed that the open data initiative should be advanced to increase transparency and accountability in the public sector. At the end of the two‑day program, a joint action plan will be drafted for implementation at the beginning of next year. The conference proved a milestone for Himachal Pradesh, where the government has positioned digital transformation as a key pillar of its development strategy.
