The launch of the Semicon 2.0 portal and the approval of 12 companies under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) will realize India’s goal of rapidly boosting its electronics manufacturing capacity.

Central Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vashnav officially inaugurated the newly developed Semicon 2.0 web application portal, which integrates investment, approval, and monitoring processes for electronics component manufacturing in digital form. Through this portal, entrepreneurs can submit applications, track progress, and gain rapid access to government support, expected to bring significant improvements in transparency and timeliness. The portal was developed as part of the Indian government’s Digital India initiative and is linked with various incentives being implemented under the National Electronics Policy.

The Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), launched in 2022, aims to boost domestic component production, reduce import dependence, and strengthen India’s position in the global supply chain. In this phase, a total of 12 companies received approvals, including established and emerging units such as Smart Form Factory, Nanotech Silicon, and Asia Electronics. These companies will receive initial capital subsidies, import duty exemptions, and special grants for research and development. The government said that these approved projects will be able to produce approximately 1.5 million tonnes of electronic components over the next five years, thereby meeting domestic market demand while also increasing export potential.

In the coming months, additional applications will be accepted through the portal, and the selection process will prioritize criteria such as technical capability, investment plan, and job creation. This step represents a significant progress toward strengthening India’s electronics manufacturing infrastructure and consolidating its position in global competition.
