In the third joint trade committee meeting held in New Delhi and Bandar Seri Begawan, the two countries assessed the progress of existing trade agreements and proposed new initiatives to deepen cooperation in the areas of energy, water resources, digital economy, and small‑medium enterprises.

In New Delhi, the third Joint Trade Committee meeting was attended by India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Brunei Darussalam’s Minister of Commerce, and several other senior officials. The meeting was convened to revive bilateral trade between the two countries over the past two years, with a plan to increase the value of two‑way trade by about 15 % in the 2024‑2025 fiscal year. The meeting conducted a detailed assessment of the progress of several agreements that were launched in 2022—such as water resource management, renewable energy projects, and integration of digital payment systems. Both sides reported that during this period India primarily exported chemicals, machinery, and pharmaceuticals to Brunei, while Brunei sent oil‑gas, refining products, and maritime logistics services to India.

During the discussion, both countries highlighted new dimensions of future cooperation. India proposed offering special financial facilities to promote investment in Brunei’s climate‑compatible energy projects, while Brunei offered regulatory ease for Indian start‑ups to enter its Special Economic Zone. In addition, the parties agreed to establish a bilateral e‑commerce platform to facilitate trade among small‑ and medium‑sized enterprises (SMEs) and to develop a joint financing model for basic infrastructure. Both countries also emphasized that continuous dialogue and the organization of an annual trade forum will be essential to strengthen cooperation under the ASEAN‑India Economic Partnership.

At the close of the meeting, both sides said that such regular forums will not only increase commercial transactions but also make a positive contribution to the economic development of both countries and regional stability. An executive group.
