Prime Minister Vishwakarma formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Trade Facilitation and Export Development (TRIFED) to strengthen market access for artisans, thereby providing new opportunities for small and traditional industries at the national and international levels.

Prime Minister Vishwakarma signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan in Delhi with representatives of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Trade Facilitation and Export Development (TRIFED).

This MoU is designed to provide artisans, craftsmen and small industries with access to a broad market through digital platforms, marketing support and export promotion. The Prime Minister said that making India’s rich craft tradition globally competitive is a key pillar of national economic development, and that this initiative will not only increase artisans’ income but also make a significant contribution to job creation.

The MSME Ministry stated that under this MoU, by leveraging TRIFED’s network and technical expertise, artisans will be provided with e‑commerce platforms, online business training, and opportunities to participate in international trade shows. In addition, arrangements for easy loan facilities, insurance and subsidies will be ensured through collaboration with financial institutions. TRIFED representatives said their goal is to guide artisans in product design, quality standards and packaging improvement, so that the global demand for Indian handicrafts can increase.

Experts believe that this initiative aligns with the existing policy framework—such as ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’—and makes artisans a crucial link in the global supply chain. If effectively implemented, this agreement will not only promote the economic empowerment of artisans but also help give Indian craft heritage a new identity on the international stage.
