Shri Manohar Lal participated in the G20 Energy Abundance ministerial meeting and held bilateral meetings with the United States and Canada.

At the G20 Energy Abundance ministerial meeting, India’s Energy Minister Manohar Lal engaged in an extensive discussion on energy security, renewable energy transition, and coordination of climate goals. In the session, he described India’s energy policy as based on the principles of “energy abundance, cleanliness and affordability,” prioritizing the expansion of clean sources such as solar, wind and hydrogen and investment in energy storage technologies. He noted that India has prepared several strategic plans to double renewable energy capacity by 2030 and to reduce carbon emissions by 45 % by 2047. Representatives from various countries on this platform considered potential partnerships in energy export, technological cooperation, and financial support, indicating a collective commitment to enhance stability and competition in the global energy market.

After the meeting, Manohar Lal held bilateral talks with the energy ministers of the United States and Canada. The discussions focused on three main areas: developing a hydrogen economy, advanced digital solutions to increase grid resilience, and providing support to developing countries for clean energy projects through climate finance. Both countries, recognizing India’s renewable energy export potential, proposed launching joint research and development programmes. This cooperation is expected to help India make its energy technology globally competitive and reduce dependence on energy imports.

Considering all these initiatives, experts believe that the G20 Energy Abundance session has given new direction to international energy cooperation and increased the prospects of establishing India as a major player on the global energy stage. Agreements emerging from the bilateral talks will not only strengthen India’s energy security but also make a significant contribution to achieving global climate goals.
